Mérida, Yucatan — Yucatan has emerged as a drug production state, according to security cabinet data that reveals four locations where authorities have detected the manufacturing and cultivation of both synthetic and natural narcotics.

Security officials identified three zones where synthetic drugs are being produced and one area dedicated to marijuana cultivation, according to exclusive information obtained by Sol Yucatán.

The findings carry significant implications as they indicate criminal groups operating in the state are not only using Yucatan as a drug trafficking corridor toward Quintana Roo and international markets through the port of Progreso, but are actually manufacturing narcotics within the state itself.

One production zone is located in Celestún, along the stretch connecting to Campeche, where traffickers are reportedly using sea cucumber processing facilities that have been converted into drug kitchens.

A similar situation is unfolding in Dzilam de Bravo, another area authorities have identified for synthetic drug production.

The Yucatan sierra region in the southern part of the state serves as a third location where narcotics are being manufactured.

All three production sites are in remote, difficult-to-access areas with easy escape routes for quick movement.

In eastern Yucatan, specifically around Tizimín, Panabá and Chemax, authorities have detected marijuana cultivation operations.
