Progreso, Mexico — Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena announced a private investment of 60 million dollars for new photovoltaic clusters, strengthening the state's leadership in clean energy and its commitment to sustainable and competitive development.
The joint investment from the companies Vive Energía and Riverstone Holdings is destined to strengthen the state's energy infrastructure through a new solar generation project with an installed capacity of 73 megawatts. The initiative, presented at the Progreso Wind Farm, reinforces Yucatán's leadership in the transition towards clean and sustainable energy, consolidating the state as a national reference in innovation and green development.
During the announcement, Governor Díaz Mena highlighted that this project is part of the strategy of the "Renacimiento Maya" (Maya Renaissance), a comprehensive plan oriented towards transforming the state's economic and social development model through sustainable investments, technological modernization, and the preservation of the natural environment.
“Today, Yucatán once again demonstrates that it can look to the future with confidence, because we continue building a modern, sustainable state with a long-term vision. We are here, at the Progreso Wind Farm, to present the new photovoltaic clusters driven by Vive Energía and Riverstone Holdings,” he stated.
The governor reported that during the construction of the photovoltaic cluster, more than 1,400 direct jobs and 70 permanent jobs will be generated, which will have a positive impact on the local economy. Likewise, he highlighted that this investment represents a firm step towards a development model that links prosperity with environmental protection and the well-being of families, in addition to driving innovation, job creation, and the pride of the Yucatecan people.
“Yucatán has privileged natural conditions: sun, wind, fertile land, and a culture deeply respectful of nature. Our task as a government is to take advantage of these benefits by attracting responsible investments that generate well-paid jobs and respect communities,” he affirmed.
“That is why, from the State Government, we will continue promoting the Law of Energy Well-being, which seeks to guarantee that the energy transition arrives with justice and tangible benefits for families, and does not remain only in large projects,” he added.
The Governor added that the confidence of companies to invest in the state confirms that Yucatán is a safe place for productive capital, but also a territory with talent, stability, and vision.
During his speech, he thanked President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo for her support of strategic projects in Yucatán, such as the modernization of the Progreso Deep-Water Port, with an investment of 12,500 million pesos, and the Maya Train, with resources exceeding 25,000 million pesos.
For his part, the director of the Yucatán Energy Agency, Pablo Gamboa Miner, reported that since its creation, the agency has received more than 40 proposals for renewable energy projects, thanks to the state's high solar and wind potential, which has aroused growing interest among national and international investors.
In turn, the general director of Vive Energía, Benigno Villarreal del Río, acknowledged that, against all odds, the Mexican southeast has become an economic engine for the country, thanks to the public development policies promoted by the State Government.
“Without energy, there is no development. The project announced today, with a capacity of 73 megawatts, will be able to supply more than 130,000 Yucatecan homes. This investment represents a significant effort on the part of Riverstone and will generate around 1,400 jobs during the next 18 months, thus reaffirming our commitment to the economic and social progress of Yucatán,” he emphasized.
In his speech, the general director of Riverstone Holdings, Juan Pablo Visoso Lomelín, expressed that Yucatán is an exceptional place to invest, where solid projects are presented and opportunities for collaboration with highly capable teams exist.
He expressed his enthusiasm for being part of the state's growth, convinced that the alliance with Vive Energía and the accompaniment of the State Government will guarantee the project's success, in addition to reaffirming the private sector's confidence in Yucatán's potential.
The secretary of Economy and Labor (SETY), Ermilo Barrera Novelo, highlighted that the State Government has managed to consolidate a shared vision among the different productive sectors, promoting a sustainable, long-term economic development model.
“This Government has managed to integrate all actors into a common vision, where each party adds to the development. This event reflects the solidity of the energy sector and confirms that Yucatán is promoting an industrial policy designed to attract national and international investment,” he stated.
The event included the participation of the president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), Claudia González Góngora, and the undersecretary of Planning for Sustainability of the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (SDS), José Luis González Pérez.
