Police tape and officers at a crime scene in the Villas del Sol neighborhood of Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A young woman, approximately 20 years old, was found dead early Friday morning inside a home in the Villas del Sol neighborhood, with visible signs of violence, authorities said.

The discovery was reported around 2 a.m. at a residence on the corner of Búhos and Sur avenues. Police officers arriving at the scene found the victim with her hands and feet bound with duct tape and showing signs of physical assault.

Paramedics who arrived shortly after confirmed the woman had no vital signs.

Agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office collected evidence at the scene, following the protocol for a probable femicide investigation. Forensic experts later removed the body and transported it to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) for an autopsy.

The State Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation file to clarify the circumstances of the death and identify the person responsible.
