24-Year-Old Gets 37 Years for Taxi Driver Murder in Mexico

Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Alexis Mora Álvarez, a 24-year-old known as "El Mora," has been sentenced to 37 years and six months in prison for the aggravated homicide of taxi driver Luis Antonio in Puerto Morelos. The Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office confirmed the sentencing following an investigation linking the crime to drug-related activities.

Brutal Attack Linked to Narcotics Dispute

According to Raciel López Salazar, the state prosecutor, the incident occurred when Mora and three accomplices intercepted the victim at a gas station in Puerto Morelos. The group forced Luis Antonio into a white Volkswagen Vento and transported him to a dirt road, where they severely beat him.

The assailants then moved the victim to a property along the Cancún-Mérida highway near Leona Vicario, where Mora shot him multiple times in the head with a 9 mm firearm. The official autopsy confirmed the cause of death as traumatic brain injury caused by a gunshot wound.

Prosecutors determined the killing was motivated by disputes tied to small-scale drug trafficking. Investigative efforts by the Public Prosecutor's Office and the State Investigation Police led to Mora's conviction in an oral trial court. He is currently serving his sentence in the Quintana Roo prison system.

López Salazar reaffirmed the Attorney General's commitment to combating impunity and delivering justice for victims of violent crimes.
