Police officers in Playa del Carmen detain a woman accused of attempting to sell a minor

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Police arrested a 26-year-old woman from Oaxaca on suspicion of attempting to sell a minor, authorities said Monday.

Officers from the Municipal Public Security Department detained Guadalupe “N” in the Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhood after two women alerted them during a patrol. The witnesses reported that the suspect was trying to hand over a child in exchange for money.

Specialists from GEAVIG, a victim assistance unit, took the minor into protective custody and referred her to the appropriate authorities for safeguarding.

The suspect was turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office, which has already initiated legal proceedings on charges related to the sale of minors, officials said.
