Woman and Child Escape Blaze in Irregular Settlement in Playa del Carmen

Firefighters extinguishing a fire at a palapa house in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A woman and a child escaped unharmed Tuesday afternoon after a fire engulfed their palapa home in the Inn House neighborhood, an irregular settlement on the outskirts of the city.

The blaze broke out on Bahia Hudson Street near Olivos, close to a local church, at the end of the drainage canal on Avenida Lilis. Neighbors tried to extinguish the flames themselves but were unable to control the intensity of the fire and called for emergency services.

The woman and child managed to flee the structure before the fire consumed most of it, averting a potential tragedy. No injuries were reported, though nearby residents feared the flames could spread to adjacent homes.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and worked to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring properties. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
