Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Mexico’s federal Security and Civil Protection Secretariat is investigating a deadly shooting at the El Camarón Guasaveño restaurant that left one employee dead and three others wounded Sunday night.
Omar García Harfuch, head of the federal agency, said during a morning press conference that investigators are also looking into a similar recent attack in the city and whether the two incidents are connected or carried out by the same perpetrators.
“We had communication almost immediately; they shared some videos showing the aggressors passing by with an automatic weapon,” García Harfuch said.
The deceased was identified as Marcos “N,” 35, originally from Mexico City. The three wounded employees, whose names were not released, were taken to the IMSS Bienestar hospital in Playa del Carmen, where they remain in stable condition.
The attack occurred around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Avenida CTM and Bulevar Playa del Carmen. Witnesses said armed men arrived at the scene and fired at least 10 shots from outside the restaurant before fleeing.
This shooting is the latest in a series of armed attacks on nightlife venues in the city. On May 28, gunmen targeted the Congo bar; on June 3, the El Pretexto bar; and the following day, La Santa bar. None of those attacks resulted in fatalities.
