Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A woman allegedly driving under the influence led police on a chase early Sunday in the northwestern part of Playa del Carmen.
According to unofficial reports, the incident happened around 2 a.m. in the Misión de Las Flores residential development. Officers spotted the woman driving a Volkswagen Beetle and ordered her to stop, but she allegedly attempted to flee. Police eventually intercepted the vehicle on a city street.
Video circulating on social media shows a patrol car with lights flashing blocking the Beetle’s path, leaving the car stopped on the sidewalk. The woman is believed to have ignored the officers’ orders because she was intoxicated, according to accounts.
Authorities have not yet said whether the woman was handed over to a municipal judge or whether her vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The Public Security Department urged drivers to be responsible behind the wheel to avoid accidents.
