Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The municipal government, led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, kicked off the island’s Foundation Festival on Saturday with the coronation of Diana Amaya Martínez as the 2026 Foundation Ambassador.
During the ceremony at the Explanada Municipal, Eglantina Hinojosa Burgos and Fausto Guadalupe Cauich Bates were also crowned as the 2026 Foundation royals. Officials presented appointments to the ambassadors representing the island’s other signature festivals, marking the start of events honoring the municipality’s history and legacy.
Hugo Iván Sánchez Montalvo, the city’s general secretary, stressed the importance of preserving traditions that strengthen the social fabric and keep alive the customs that distinguish Isla Mujeres. He also thanked the families and all those who helped make the celebration possible.
