Cancun, Quintana Roo — Residents in several areas of Cancun and Isla Mujeres may experience water supply disruptions on Wednesday, June 24, due to a scheduled power outage by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), according to Aguakan, the local water utility.
The concessionaire, which manages drinking water, sewage, and sanitation services in northern Quintana Roo, said the power interruption could directly affect pumping operations, leading to low pressure or temporary water outages in numerous neighborhoods, superblocks, and housing developments.
Much of the hydraulic infrastructure relies on electricity to operate wells, pumping stations, and distribution systems. When power is cut, water supply can drop significantly, especially in densely populated or high-demand areas.
Affected areas in Cancun include superblocks 01 to 02, 02-A, 03 to 03-A, 04, 04-A and 04-B, 05 to 10, 10-A and 10-B, 11 to 15, 15-A, 16 to 20, 21 to 33, 35 to 41, 43 to 52, 54 to 57, 60 to 63, 90, 95, 97, 215 to 216, 222 to 240, 245 to 250, 253, 295 to 299, 301, 305, 307, 309, 310 to 337, 341, and 500 to 529.
Other locations that may be affected include:
- Moon Palace
- Lausana
- Hotel Zone
- Central de Abasto
- Bonfil
- Puerto Cancun
- Condominios Punta Sam
- Playa Mujeres
- Isla Mujeres
Neither CFE nor Aguakan has announced the exact time of the power shutdown, so the duration of water service disruptions remains unknown.
Authorities urge residents to take precautions by storing water for essential activities such as hygiene, cleaning, and food preparation, especially in homes with elderly people, children, or individuals with medical conditions. Officials recommend following Aguakan’s official channels for updates on service restoration.
