David Ortiz Mena, President of the Tulum Hotel Association, has called for regulations on vacation rentals to ensure visitor safety and prevent disorganized growth. He highlighted that the unchecked rise of these rentals in Quintana Roo has led to increased housing costs and potential safety risks for tourists.

Ortiz Mena also drew attention to the disparity in job creation and economic impact between hotels and vacation rentals, expressing concerns about the detrimental effects of the latter. He further underscored the success of the "all-inclusive" hotel model in Quintana Roo, stating that it has significantly boosted tourism in the region.
