Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo – A U.S. citizen was detained after causing damage at a fast-food establishment in the Centro Maya plaza, allegedly due to impatience over a delay in his order.
The incident, which occurred on the night of December 24, was captured on video and widely shared on social media. The footage shows the man arguing with an employee and subsequently throwing the order management computer to the floor, causing material damage and alarm among those present.
The manager of the establishment requested assistance, indicating that in addition to the damage, a worker was injured during the altercation. Despite the individual offering to pay for the computer to avoid being detained, the employee rejected the agreement, stating that the damages were greater and that the injured worker required medical attention.
According to accounts, the customer became upset because his order was not ready immediately, even though he had been informed that there were previous orders. Finally, the employee decided to file formal charges, leading to the arrest of the U.S. citizen.
The incident generated online criticism toward the tourist’s attitude, especially because it occurred in front of his children.
