Tulum, Quintana Roo — Two young individuals sustained significant injuries after falling approximately five meters when an improvised wooden platform collapsed at the Tulum Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred near Field One, where the victims had been watching a soccer match from the makeshift structure.

Sudden Collapse Leaves Victims with Serious Injuries

Witnesses reported that the plywood supporting the platform gave way unexpectedly, causing both individuals to plummet onto the concrete below without any protective barriers to cushion their fall.

One of the victims, identified as Fabiola, under 30 years old, suffered a severe head injury and lost consciousness for several minutes. The second victim, a 26-year-old man, also sustained injuries from the fall.

Bystanders and fellow spectators rushed to assist the injured while emergency medical services were called. Paramedics arrived shortly afterward to provide prehospital care before transporting both individuals to a nearby clinic for specialized treatment. Their current medical conditions remain unknown, though preliminary reports indicate their injuries were serious.

Concerns Over Structural Safety

Photographs from the scene show the shattered remains of the collapsed platform and fractured plywood, highlighting the structure’s instability. The accident has raised concerns among frequent visitors to the sports complex, who criticized the apparent lack of oversight regarding temporary installations on the premises.

Authorities have yet to announce whether an investigation will be launched into the structural integrity of facilities at the Tulum Sports Complex.
