Two Arrested After Jet Ski Strikes Swimmers on Cancun Beach

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Two men have been arrested after a jet ski struck four people on a beach in Cancun’s hotel zone, leaving a 3-year-old girl among the injured.

The incident occurred at Playa Gaviota Azul, near the Cristal hotel at kilometer 9 of Boulevard Kukulcan. Emergency services responded to a 911 call and provided medical attention to the victims, who were taken to a private clinic for evaluation.

Tourist police and Cancun police officers arrested Mateo “N,” 35, and José “N,” 36, on suspicion of involvement in the crash with the watercraft.

According to initial reports, the victims were on the beach when the jet ski hit them. Authorities have not released details on the severity of the injuries or the current condition of those hurt.

The State Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident and the legal status of the detainees, who have been turned over to the relevant prosecutor.
