Tulum, Quintana Roo — Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo said he will not request a leave of absence from his post, pushing back against speculation that he could enter upcoming electoral races.
In an interview, Castañón Trejo said his priority is to remain at the head of the municipal administration and keep the local government’s projects and programs moving forward. He made clear he is not considering participating in any electoral process for now.
“No, honestly, right now I am focused on the municipality. I’m working with the entire administration, and other people or citizens who want to go run in an election, that will be their decision. We are doing very well here. We are not going to ask for leave; we’re going to stay here,” Castañón Trejo said.
The mayor’s comments come amid speculation over possible political moves ahead of the next elections. He reiterated that his commitment at this time is to address the municipality’s needs and ensure continuity in the work of his administration.
