They were advised to either take the circuit to Tulum or proceed with caution under the bridge due to the ensuing congestion. An operator warned, "Those leaving Playa del Carmen should be aware of an accident on the bridge from Cancun to Tulum. It is recommended to pass under the bridge or take the circuit to Tulum as traffic will become very heavy in the next few hours."
Details of the Incident
The collision occurred at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday on the Playa del Carmen boulevard between CTM avenue and 38th street. The Jetta, driven by 48-year-old Eduardo R.S.A. from Quintana Roo, collided with the bridge's retaining wall. The impact caused the Jetta to veer into a Peugeot 3008 driven by Daniela C.F., a 38-year-old from Mexico City. Both drivers were unharmed and remained at the scene to resolve the issue with their insurers.
The Jetta was traveling from north to south on the Playa boulevard bridge. Upon reaching the section between CTM and AV. 38, the driver lost control and collided with the bridge's right-side retaining wall. After hitting the wall, the car spun clockwise and hit the Peugeot, which was traveling in the same direction. Cranes were quickly deployed to clear the road and restore normal traffic flow.
