Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A tourist was detained by elements of the Tourist Police in the early hours of Friday after assaulting a woman in the vicinity of 12th Street, between 5th and 10th Avenues, in the tourist zone of Playa del Carmen.
According to initial reports, both individuals involved were in an apparent state of intoxication at the time of the incident. The event was reported by citizens who witnessed the assault on a public street and alerted the authorities through an emergency call.
In response, officers from the Tourist Police arrived at the site and proceeded to intervene to detain the aggressor. Upon arrival, the uniformed officers observed that the individual had various visible injuries, prompting them to request the presence of paramedics for a medical evaluation.
Personnel from the Mexican Red Cross arrived at the location and provided pre-hospital care to the individual. Following the medical assessment, it was determined that the injuries sustained by the tourist did not pose a risk to his physical integrity, making a transfer to a hospital unnecessary. The paramedics confirmed that the individual could be remitted to the corresponding authorities.
Subsequently, the man was apprehended and transported to the facilities of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat, where he was turned over to a civic judge to determine his legal situation.
At this time, it has not been reported whether the assaulted woman filed a formal complaint or required medical attention.
The incident prompted the mobilization of security and emergency units in one of the most trafficked areas of Playa del Carmen, known for its high tourist influx, especially during weekend nights.
Authorities continue to urge citizens and visitors to maintain order and report any situation that represents a risk to public safety. The Secretariat of Public Security has not released further details regarding the identity of the detainee or the motives that originated the altercation.
The case remains in the hands of the civic judge to continue with the established legal procedures for such cases.
