Cancún to Host Charity Walk Supporting Women With Breast Cancer

Walkers cross the Nichupté Bridge in Cancún during a charity event for breast cancer patients

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún will host a charity walk on Sunday, Oct. 25, aimed at raising money for women and others facing breast cancer while promoting solidarity and awareness of the disease.

The event, called “Camina por Ellas: Cruzando el puente trascendemos” (Walk for Them: Crossing the Bridge, We Go Beyond), is part of the Puenteando initiative and will begin at 6 p.m. at the Nichupté Bridge. Participants can choose between one-kilometer and five-kilometer routes, and organizers have opened the call to families, friends, companies and the general public.

All Proceeds Go to Two Foundations

Organizers said 100 percent of the funds raised will go to Fundación LUNA A.C. and Lazos de Vida. Fundación LUNA promotes recovery and well-being programs for breast cancer survivors, while Lazos de Vida provides emotional support, guidance and assistance to patients during treatment.

The walk is organized by the six associations that make up the Mujeres Exitosas alliance:

  • The Association of Vacation and Tourism Complexes
  • The Mexican Association of Women Entrepreneurs, Cancún chapter
  • The Women’s Association of Executives in Tourism Companies of Mexico, Quintana Roo chapter
  • Skål México
  • Skål Isla Mujeres
  • The Association of Public Relations and Communication of Mexico

The event is one of the first joint actions by the alliance, which was formally created this year to promote collaboration, female leadership and community projects.

Organizers said the groups want to extend their work beyond the business and tourism sectors to support people facing a disease that requires companionship and social backing.

Beyond the walks, the program includes activities, prizes and the chance to watch the sunset from one of Cancún’s signature locations.

Mercedes-Benz is the event’s official sponsor, and the Quintana Roo State Mobility Institute provided permits for the activity on the bridge.

The associations urged residents to take part, noting that every contribution will support the work of both foundations. The invitation is open to anyone who wants to join a gathering that combines community spirit, awareness and support for patients and survivors.
