Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — More than 750 firefighters and emergency responders from Mexico and other countries are taking part in the 11 hands-on courses offered at the Second National Firefighters Congress Playa del Carmen 2026, an event aimed at sharpening response capabilities across a range of emergency scenarios.
Among the participants is a 12-member delegation from Cozumel, whose firefighters are running drills and exchanging experience with colleagues from other regions.
The program covers firefighting techniques, cliff rescue, prehospital care, the incident command system, thermal-imaging search and drone operation. Organizers expect roughly 2,000 course participations between October 12 and 16.
The training sessions are being held at the new Center for Advanced Firefighter Training, described as the third facility of its kind in the country. The site allows crews to carry out specialized exercises designed to improve emergency response readiness.
Specialists from Costa Rica, Tijuana and Mazatlán are leading the instruction. Playa del Carmen personnel are serving as instructors at the congress for the first time. The event runs through October 16.
