Cancún, Quintana Roo — Medical personnel in Cancún and Playa del Carmen are investigating three suspected cases of monkeypox in minors. One of the children, an 11-year-old, was admitted to the General Hospital "Jesús Kumate Rodríguez" after being evaluated at the Red Cross facility in Supermanzana 21 with symptoms consistent with the disease.

Cases Under Investigation

The other two suspected cases involve children in Playa del Carmen who exhibited similar symptoms and were treated at local clinics. As of now, the Quintana Roo State Health Department has not issued an official statement, though hospital staff confirmed that isolation protocols have been activated.

These developments follow the recent death of a young man from another region of Quintana Roo, who was hospitalized at Kumate Hospital and died days later. While authorities have not confirmed whether his death was related to monkeypox, medical personnel have raised concerns about a potential outbreak.

Hospital Restrictions and Public Concern

Internal areas of the hospital have reportedly been restricted to minimize risks to staff and other patients. The lack of official information has sparked alarm on social media.

Health officials are expected to clarify soon whether these cases are linked and if an active monkeypox outbreak is underway in the state.
