Three Early Morning Fires in Tulum Prompt Major Emergency Response

Firefighters and emergency personnel at the scene of one of three early morning fires in Tulum, Quintana Roo.

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A series of three fires broke out almost simultaneously in different parts of Tulum early Tuesday morning, triggering a major emergency response and disrupting the pre-dawn calm.

Authorities began receiving reports around 5:40 a.m. via the 911 emergency line as residents alerted them to multiple blazes in the urban area. The incidents prompted firefighters and civil protection personnel to mobilize quickly to address the separate emergencies.

One fire occurred in an abandoned palapa structure located next to the facilities of the Comisión de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado (CAPA), on one of the city’s main avenues. Flames rapidly consumed the structure, forcing firefighters to work to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby areas.

Almost simultaneously, a second fire was reported just a few blocks away, behind a Santander bank branch. In that incident, a parked Hyundai car—reportedly belonging to a mechanic’s workshop—caught fire, causing concern among neighbors. The vehicle sustained significant damage before crews controlled the flames.

The third incident was reported at a recycling point in the area known as Sendero Verde, behind the Super Aki supermarket. This site is approximately 500 meters from the other two fire locations, a proximity that drew the attention of authorities.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames at each location and prevent the fires from spreading to other structures or vehicles. Personnel from the State Prosecutor’s Office later visited the affected sites to begin an investigation and gather information to determine the causes of the blazes.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incidents, and investigations are ongoing.
