Cancún, Quintana Roo — A security operation in Cancún led to the arrest of 11 people, including a minor, for alleged involvement in drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession. The case is also linked to an investigation into a shooting at a local establishment weeks earlier.
Police officers located the group in the Marina Turquesa neighborhood after surveillance and intelligence work. Authorities identified those detained as Marco Antonio “N,” known as “Pitis”; Jesús Efrén “N”; Carlos Arturo “N”; Luis Jorge “N”; Jairo “N”; Brenda “N”; Evelyn Damaris “N”; Mariela “N”; Yansan Guadalupe “N”; Lucía “N”; and a 15-year-old adolescent.
During the raid, officers seized multiple doses of a green vegetable substance resembling marijuana, along with firearms. The confiscated items included a homemade weapon, two AR-15-style rifles in .223 caliber, loaded magazines, and live ammunition. Police also secured a sedan allegedly used by the suspects.
Initial investigations indicate the detainees were involved in drug distribution in the area and were part of a criminal group operating in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas. Authorities believe this group is engaged in disputes over control of illicit activities in the region.
One of those arrested, Marco Antonio “N,” is considered a possible participant in a March 11 armed attack at the Carboneros bar, where three people died. This incident remains under investigation to determine its connection to other criminal events.
Following their arrest, the 11 individuals were handed over to the appropriate authorities. A judge ordered them to face trial and imposed preventive detention as a precautionary measure while investigations continue to determine each person’s level of involvement.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the group’s structure and its possible links to other incidents in the area.
