The Benito Juarez Ecology Department is set to inspect a taco shop situated near a cenote in the "Las Vívoras" neighborhood of Region 200. This comes after six cow heads were discovered during a recent cleanup of the water body.
Fernando Haro Salinas, the department head, has indicated that the business suspected of discarding its organic waste in the cenote has been identified. Appropriate actions will be taken, including potential penalties and possible closure of the establishment.
Salinas noted that the nearby taco shop was found to be disposing of its waste, including numerous cow heads, in the cenote. The department is currently working to confirm the identity of the shop in order to issue a warning, and if necessary, shut it down.
During the recent cleanup, approximately 4.1 tons of trash were removed from the water body. Salinas announced plans for further cleanups throughout the year to ensure the cenote is clean and enjoyable for residents.
Interestingly, this particular cenote is home to the protected red mangrove species, which, despite the pollution, remains in good condition. As a result, the department is prioritizing its efforts to completely clean up this area.
