Cancún Mayor Ana Paty Peralta Boosts Cultural Offer With Municipal Chamber Orchestra Concerts

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Mayor Ana Paty Peralta attended the Municipal Chamber Orchestra’s concert cycle at the Hirán Sánchez forum in the Centro Cultural de las Artes, where she said her administration will keep backing the city’s artistic ensembles and creating spaces for families to enjoy quality performances.

Since it was founded in May, the municipal orchestra has given nine performances reaching more than 5,000 people, bringing concert music to Cancún families, the city government said.

Peralta said strengthening local talent and giving municipal groups room to share their work enriches Cancún’s cultural identity, while allowing more residents to experience concert music in accessible, close-up settings.

Sergio Carlos López Jiménez, director general of the Institute of Culture and the Arts, said the concert cycle is designed to offer a different musical experience through small-format performances that let audiences hear each instrument in detail and build a closer connection between musicians and listeners. He described the Municipal Chamber Orchestra as one of the ensembles created to broaden the cultural offering in Benito Juárez, the municipality that includes Cancún, and to cultivate new audiences.

The orchestra was founded in early 2026 at the mayor’s initiative and brings together 12 professional musicians under the artistic direction and concertmaster role of maestro Dante Augusto Montes Briones. Its repertoire ranges from the Baroque period to contemporary works, with a particular emphasis on Mexican and Latin American composers.
