Cancun, Quintana Roo — A large police operation unfolded Friday afternoon in the Paseos Nikté, Paseos del Mar, and Vista Real neighborhoods after residents reported seeing several armed men traveling in a mototaxi.
Officers from multiple security agencies responded to the alert, coordinating with the C2 and C5 video surveillance systems. Cameras spotted a white mototaxi with a purple-and-blue canopy, but the image quality was too poor to read the vehicle’s license plate.
Patrols swept main streets, building entrances, and other strategic points in search of the suspects. The heavy police presence, sirens, and vehicle movements alarmed nearby residents and drivers.
According to neighbors, several calls to the 911 emergency line warned that the mototaxi occupants were making suspicious rounds and appeared to be casing the area, raising fears of possible criminal activity.
Despite the deployment, the operation ended without any arrests. The suspects evaded police, and as of late Friday, authorities had not confirmed their location.
Residents of the neighborhoods have called for increased preventive patrols, saying armed individuals pose a risk to local families.
