Cancún, Quintana Roo — On the waters of Nichupté Lagoon, a metal stage is taking shape on a floating platform as crews put the finishing touches on preparations for the inaugural concert of the new Nichupté Bridge, which will connect Cancún’s urban area with the Hotel Zone.

Technicians and workers are adjusting pieces, checking installations, and coordinating maneuvers on the lagoon in an unusual scene that combines public infrastructure with event staging. Support boats circle the platform, leaving wakes that break the calm water as the scaffolding grows and begins to define the space where the main event will take place.

Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama confirmed that activities will begin Saturday with a public event.

“The entire celebration starts Saturday with the president of the Republic, with the social race, with lots of fun, joy, and an inauguration party,” she said.

Sunday’s program includes a 5K and 10K race, followed by a musical performance. “We are waiting to sing, vibrate, and have a great time,” the governor added.

The stage setup on the lagoon has become one of the most striking elements of the preparations, not only because of its location but also due to the logistics of building such a structure on the water in front of one of the city’s most important infrastructure projects.

As work progresses, the Nichupté Bridge is shaping up to be more than just a new roadway — it will also serve as the centerpiece of a weekend combining sports, music, and community gathering in Cancún.
