Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Public sports fields in Chetumal that are officially open for recreational use remain locked, sparking frustration among residents who say they cannot access the facilities.
One such field, located on Nicolas Bravo Avenue near the fire station, is kept under lock and key, according to local residents. They report that a person tasked with guarding the space allows entry only for organized training sessions and allegedly charges 200 pesos per child — a practice that has drawn criticism from parents.
Residents say they do not know whether the person has formal authorization to control access or whether the trainers are accredited sports instructors. Parents are calling for greater transparency about how the fields are managed and want the facilities to be available for children and young people seeking to play sports.
