Cancún, Mexico — A shooting inside the Acuario bar in Cancún’s region 221 on Saturday night prompted a Code Red alert and a significant mobilization of security forces to the area. The incident occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m.
According to initial reports, the gunshots were fired inside the establishment. As of the close of this edition, the existence of any injured or deceased persons had not been confirmed.
Personnel from the Quintana Roo Police and the State Attorney General's Office arrived at the scene, conducted investigative procedures, and secured the perimeter for several minutes.
Testimonies indicate that the owners of the establishment, identified as Edgar N. and Félix N., instructed the Cuban-born manager to evacuate the clients. It is presumed that, despite having a set closing time, the venue continued to operate behind closed doors.
This is not the first time this bar has been involved in violent incidents. In March 2022, when it still operated under the name La Playita, armed individuals attacked its facade. In February 2023, the property was again the target of gunfire in the early morning hours, resulting in no victims but causing visible damage. In June 2024, a brawl culminated in the execution of a man outside the premises.
The attack on the night of August 23 adds to this chain of episodes that have placed the Acuario bar at the center of public attention.
The State Attorney General's Office has not yet announced whether an investigation file has been opened to clarify the facts and determine responsibilities.
