Tulum, Quintana Roo — A woman sustained injuries and significant material damage was reported following a head-on collision between a taxi and a public transport van on Federal Highway 307. The accident occurred near the exit to Felipe Carrillo Puerto, just before the access to Aldea Tulum.
Details of the Accident
The incident took place when a taxi, bearing license plate B-302-TML and affiliated with the “Tiburones del Caribe” union in Tulum, veered into the opposite lane while heading toward the municipal center. Preliminary reports indicate the driver lost control of the vehicle for reasons still under investigation, resulting in a direct impact with a van, numbered 87, operating on the Chetumal–Caobas route.
The van was carrying more than ten passengers at the time of the crash. The collision struck the right side of the van, causing panic among its occupants.
Emergency Response
The injured woman, seated in the rear of the taxi, received immediate assistance from Civil Protection personnel, who were first on the scene. Paramedics from Salud Móvil later stabilized the victim and transported her to a hospital for specialized medical evaluation. Her condition is reported as serious but stable.
Members of the National Guard’s Roads Division secured the area to facilitate emergency operations and manage traffic, which was disrupted for over an hour in both directions.
Safety Concerns on Highway 307
The accident has reignited concerns over safety along this stretch of highway, where reckless driving and speeding frequently lead to crashes. Authorities urged drivers to adhere to speed limits, stay in their lanes, and avoid hazardous maneuvers, particularly during nighttime when visibility is reduced.
Investigations are ongoing to determine potential liability in the incident, which fortunately did not result in fatalities.
The highway remains a focal point for both accidents and criminal activity, prompting calls for enhanced safety measures.
