Cancún, Quintana Roo — Private security guards detained a man who attempted to steal a kilogram of meat from a Chedraui supermarket in Cancún yesterday afternoon. The incident occurred at the supermarket located on Avenida Talleres in the La Guadalupana neighborhood.
According to initial reports, the man tried to leave the establishment without paying for the meat, which activated the surveillance protocols of the private security personnel. The guards detected the suspicious behavior as the individual headed toward the exit. After stopping him and confirming the attempted theft, they proceeded to subdue him to prevent his escape from the location.
The intervention created moments of tension both inside and outside the checkout area, drawing the attention of other customers who were shopping at the time. During the detention, some witnesses recorded the scene with their cell phones. Minutes later, the videos began circulating on social media, where they quickly went viral and sparked a wave of divided comments between users who supported the security personnel’s action and others who questioned the use of force given the value of the stolen product.
Authorities Take Notice of the Case
After being detained, the man was released by the supermarket staff and subsequently handed over, apparently, to the corresponding authorities. Legal institutions will determine his legal situation according to current law, as well as whether the case warrants administrative or criminal sanctions.
The incident generated various reactions among internet users, who debated about insecurity, the economic situation, and the limits of private security actions. Meanwhile, the case of security guards detaining a man who attempted to steal a kilogram of meat at Chedraui in Cancún continues to be talked about on digital platforms, becoming one of the most commented topics of the day in the city.
