Cancún, Quintana Roo — Security footage has captured four armed men robbing two foreign tourists in Cancún’s city center, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the popular tourist destination.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning on Palenque Avenue in Supermanzana 27, where two young foreign women were walking when four men on two motorcycles stopped them. One man dismounted and began pulling at one woman’s bag while another did the same to her companion.
“My passport, my passport,” one tourist repeatedly pleaded as the robbers threatened them with a weapon. Both women resisted briefly before the armed assailants fled on motorcycles approximately one minute later, leaving the tourists visibly shaken.
The security camera timestamp indicates the robbery occurred at 2:36 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14. The footage has since circulated widely on social media, prompting residents and online commentators to question security conditions in Benito Juárez municipality.
It remains unclear whether the tourists have filed a police report or received assistance from Cancún authorities or their consulate to replace stolen passports and phones.
