Second Mototaxi Driver Killed in Cancun Within a Week

Police and forensic investigators at the scene where a mototaxi driver was shot dead in Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A mototaxi driver was shot and killed Tuesday night while working in Cancun, marking the second fatal attack on a driver in the city within a week.

The victim, a member of the Frente Sindical de Obreros y Campesinos del Estado de Quintana Roo (FESOC) union, was attacked around 8 p.m. on 20 de Noviembre Avenue in Region 260. Witnesses reported to emergency services that two armed individuals intercepted a red mototaxi, opened fire, and fled on a motorcycle.

Municipal, state, and federal police responded to the scene at the intersection with Circuito Selvática in the Punta Ikal neighborhood. They found the driver dead beside his vehicle.

Forensic experts from the State Prosecutor’s Office cordoned off the area and collected evidence, including at least four spent shell casings.

The victim, a man between 40 and 45 years old, has not been officially identified. His body was taken to the forensic medical service.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance camera footage to locate the suspects. No arrests have been made.

This incident follows another armed attack last week against a mototaxi driver from the IslaCun union in Cancun’s Region 227. Investigators are working to determine if the two cases are connected.
