Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A human corpse was found in the vicinity of the municipal landfill in Playa del Carmen on Sunday afternoon, adding to the discovery of a first body earlier that morning in the “Las Gemelas” neighborhood.
The second discovery was located on dirt roads connecting Loros Avenue with the route to the municipal landfill. The man’s body was found completely naked and with apparent signs of having been beaten, according to preliminary information.
It was discovered by people who were heading to a nearby cenote, a common destination in those rural access roads.
This case added to a previous discovery registered hours earlier. On the morning of that same Sunday, authorities deployed an operation at the “Las Gemelas” ranch, located in the area known as El Cedralito, near the boundaries with the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas.
On this private property, the body of a man was found in an evident state of decomposition and with visible signs of violence. The condition of the corpse suggests that the victim had been at the location for several days before being located.
In both cases, Municipal Police elements cordoned off the areas. Criminalistics experts and investigative police from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) initiated the corresponding procedures, working to gather evidence and clarify the circumstances of both incidents.
The bodies will be transferred to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO), where the necessary expert tests will be conducted to determine the exact causes of death and achieve identification of the victims.
The FGE maintains open investigation files and does not rule out any lines of inquiry, given the nature of the discoveries in these isolated areas of the municipality.
