Canada’s Pouzza Fest Brings Punk, Ska and Cumbia to Playa del Carmen in 2027

A band performs on a lit outdoor stage beneath a banner reading Pinzza while a large crowd raises its hands in the foreground at night.

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Pouzza del Carmen, an international independent music festival spun off from Montreal’s Pouzza Fest, will land in Mexico for the first time from March 12 to 14, 2027, organizers announced.

Playa del Carmen will host three days of punk, ska and cumbia across six stages, with bands from several countries playing beachfront venues, terraces and bars.

The event is meant to link Canada’s and Mexico’s independent music scenes by pairing international acts with local and regional groups. It stems from Pouzza Fest, founded in Montreal in 2011, which books more than 150 bands per edition. The Quintana Roo edition marks the first time the festival has been staged outside Canada.

Six stages, from the beach to the hotel pool

Organizers plan six stages spread across beach spaces, bars and a host hotel that has yet to be announced.

  • Encanto Beach Club will host two beachfront stages.
  • Zitla Ceiba and Lux Morty will stage nighttime concerts.
  • RIOT will serve as the information and guest-services hub.
  • The host hotel’s terrace and pool are also slated for performances.

The setup will spread concerts across different points of Playa del Carmen over the three days.

Who is on the bill

Announced acts include Tijuana No!, Son Rompe Pera, Cancer Bats, Dillinger Four, Voodoo Glow Skulls and GrimSkunk, along with MakeWar, Flores y Fuego, Piñata Protest, We Are Wolves and The Resignators.

Regional and local bands on the lineup include Ansiedad, Naufragio, Los Wornaut and Brigada Esperanza. The official poster lists more than 50 additional acts, and organizers say the full schedule may still change.

The project is led by Hugo Mudie, founder of Pouzza Fest, and Ty Trumbull, who are driving the first Mexican edition.

Warm-up shows in Merida, Playa del Carmen and Cancun

Before the festival, Canadian band The Sainte Catherines will play three dates on the Yucatan Peninsula in November 2026.

The run opens on November 13 in Merida, continues on November 14 at Zitla Ceiba in Playa del Carmen and closes on November 15 in Cancun, with guest bands at each stop. Organizers announced presale tickets at 300 pesos and 400 pesos at the door.

A different sound for the Riviera Maya’s event calendar

Pouzza del Carmen adds an independent-music offering to the Riviera Maya’s lineup of international events, which is dominated by electronic music festivals. The new event mixes genres and turns tourist venues and local businesses into stages.

Organizers are offering three-day passes and packages that include lodging. Details and availability are available on the festival’s official website.
