Near Puerto Aventuras, in the southern fifth section of the Maya Train project, further instances of cement spillage have been observed. The piles were found to be filled with overflowing cement and materials inside the caves. Additionally, the metal encasing these piles was, in some instances, inadequately repaired.
These errors are believed to be due to the haste to complete the project. The current federal administration, led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, is set to conclude at the end of September. The Maya Train is considered his signature project.
Despite a federal judge's order to halt construction in the southern fifth section for the second time, work continues unabated.
