Cancún, Quintana Roo — Waste management company Red Ambiental will donate 25 external breast prostheses, each paired with a custom orthopedic bra, and hand out vouchers for 80 medical studies as part of the Benito Juárez municipal government’s breast cancer prevention campaign.
The vouchers cover mammograms and bone density scans. Company executive director Jorge Arturo Estrada Elosua announced the donation during the unveiling of a pink garbage collection truck, an event led by Mayor Ana Paty Peralta on the esplanade of Plaza de la Reforma.
The vehicle will travel the Hotel Zone and Cancún’s household collection routes carrying the campaign slogan “We are a sign on your path: self-examine,” which encourages women to check themselves and keep up regular medical appointments for early detection of the disease.
Message Aimed at Every Household
Peralta said the goal is for the message to reach every woman in the city — at home, at work, on public transport and in neighborhoods across Cancún. She thanked Red Ambiental for taking part for a sixth consecutive year, working alongside the DIF Benito Juárez family services agency and SIRESOL, and acknowledged the associations and foundations that support patients in the city.
Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of the DIF Quintana Roo system, urged women to make their health a priority and to keep up regular checkups, and reaffirmed her agency’s commitment to working in coordination with others to support those facing the disease.
