Quintana Roo Unveils Security and Logistics Plan for 2026 World Cup

Officials from federal and state security agencies meet to discuss World Cup preparations in Quintana Roo.

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama announced that Quintana Roo is advancing preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a comprehensive strategy covering security, logistics, and tourist services to ensure a safe experience for domestic and international visitors.

During a working meeting with federal and state authorities, including Gabriela Cuevas Barrón, the federal government’s representative and coordinator for the 2026 World Cup, officials presented the “Kukulcan General Operation Plan.” Cancún will serve as a strategic hub for fans traveling to the 16 World Cup host cities.

The plan includes enhanced security coordination involving the National Guard, the Mexican Navy, the National Intelligence Center, and the state’s Public Security Department. Authorities also emphasized collaboration with international consulates.

Cuevas highlighted that Quintana Roo will play a key role during the tournament, not only due to tourist arrivals but also because of public activities linked to the event. The state will host “Fiestas México,” public viewing areas where fans can watch matches for free.

Governor Lezama said the Mexican Caribbean has the tourism infrastructure, air connectivity, and institutional coordination to welcome thousands of visitors during the World Cup.

“We want the World Cup to be lived to the fullest here in Quintana Roo, in the Mexican Caribbean, which is the World Capital of Vacations and today also the Capital of the World Cup,” Lezama said.
