Cancún, Quintana Roo — Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz claimed the singles title at the Cancún Country Open ATP Challenger Tour 2026 on Sunday, defeating Argentina’s Sebastián Báez in a hard-fought final.
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and tournament officials presented the champion’s trophy in a festive awards ceremony. Joining Lezama were promoter Francisco Tarazona, tournament director Daniel Langre, ATP official representative Dee Houle, and ATP supervisor Rogerio Santos.
The tournament, held for the second consecutive year in Cancún, brought together more than 70 players from 29 countries. Organizers said the main court at the Cancún Country Club expanded its capacity to 2,000 spectators, reflecting the growing interest in professional tennis in the destination.
Earlier in the evening, the governor helped present awards in the men’s doubles competition. India’s Sriram Balaji and Anirudh Chandrasekar took the doubles title, while Mexico’s Miguel Reyes Varela and Belarus’ Iván Liutarevich finished as runners-up.
The event also drew state tourism officials, including Quintana Roo Tourism Secretary Bernardo Cueto Riestra and Benito Juárez Tourism Secretary Juan Pablo de Zulueta.
The Cancún Country Open has positioned itself as a key stop on the ATP Challenger circuit and a lead-in to the Cincinnati Masters and the US Open, highlighting the role of sports tourism in diversifying the region’s travel offerings.
