Chetumal, Mexico – Following the economic downturn recorded in Tulum, Tourism Secretary Bernardo Cueto Riestra stated that with the start of the high winter vacation season, a notable improvement is being observed, allowing for anticipation of a year-end with high hotel occupancy in the area.

He indicated that currently, an average hotel occupancy of 75 percent is being recorded in destinations such as Tulum and Playa del Carmen, figures he described as encouraging.

“These figures are encouraging and we expect to close the year with more than 20 million tourists,” he insisted.

Furthermore, he noted that an average occupancy close to 90 percent is expected to be reached, after a complicated period resulting from various factors that caused a decrease in the influx of national and foreign tourists.

“Things are starting to improve,” he affirmed.

Cueto Riestra emphasized that the State Government maintains tourism promotion programs and coordination with the private sector to consolidate this positive trend, with the goal of Tulum fully recovering its tourism dynamism and remaining as one of the most important destinations in the Mexican Caribbean for the remainder of 2025.
