Cancún, Mexico — In an effort to boost the football talent of Quintana Roo and foster the active participation of its municipalities, the Quintana Roo State Sports Commission (CODEQ), led by Jacobo Arzate, has announced the State Lightning Socca Tournament, scheduled for November 27.

This event will be held as part of the celebration of the 2025 Socca World Cup, which will take place in Cancún, marking a significant milestone for sports in the region.

The initiative falls within the New Agreement for Wellbeing and Development promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, which emphasizes collaboration between different levels of government under the slogans #ANivelDeCancha (On the Field Level) and #SíAlDeporte (Yes to Sports). The objective is to create a sense of unity among the state's municipalities by promoting activities that will not only strengthen local sports but also benefit sports tourism in Quintana Roo.

"We are very happy to announce this tournament, which seeks to involve all the municipalities in this great celebration. We know there is a lot of talent in our state and we want everyone to feel a part of this event," expressed Jacobo Arzate during a press conference.

The president of CODEQ also thanked the municipal sports directors for their commitment and collaboration in the development of this competition.

For his part, Alejandro Luna, director of the Benito Juárez Sports Institute, reaffirmed the importance of working together: "It is an honor to have all the municipalities in Cancún, where we will bring the best talent in this discipline. It is a historic fact that a Socca World Cup is being held for the first time in Mexico."

The tournament will include Boys' Infantil and Girls' Infantil categories for youth aged 12 to 14, and Men's Open and Women's Open divisions for participants aged 15 and over. Registrations will be open from October 22 to October 25 through the Quintana Roo State Sports Registry System (REDQ).

To date, the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Bacalar, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Othón P. Blanco have confirmed their participation.

This tournament represents not only an opportunity for sports development but also a platform to elevate the profile of Quintana Roo on the global stage.
