Quintana Roo Sends Largest-Ever Delegation to National CONADE Olympics and Paralympics

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has flagged off the largest sports delegation in Quintana Roo’s history, with over 800 athletes, coaches, and support staff set to compete in the 2026 CONADE National Olympics and Paralympics.

The ceremony took place at the Poliforum Cancún, where officials, athletes, and families gathered to send off the contingent that will represent the state in the coming weeks.

Historic Delegation: Over 800 Representatives from All 11 Municipalities

The delegation includes athletes, para-athletes, coaches, delegates, judges, and support personnel from all 11 municipalities in the state, making it the largest in Quintana Roo’s history.

During the event, Governor Lezama expressed pride in the athletes’ effort and dedication: “We are very proud of you. Behind every athlete are stories of discipline, effort, and families who are always supporting.”

She also acknowledged the support of parents and the fundamental work of coaches in developing athletic talent.

Participation in 45 Sports Disciplines

Jacobo Arzate, head of the Quintana Roo Commission for Youth and Sports, announced that the delegation will compete in 39 disciplines at the National Olympics and 6 disciplines at the National Paralympics, positioning Quintana Roo as one of the most complete delegations nationally.

Historic Investment in Quintana Roo Sports

Governor Lezama highlighted that her administration has allocated 35.6 million pesos in scholarships and sports incentives to benefit over 1,500 athletes. She also noted the rehabilitation of previously deteriorated sports facilities, including the Poliforum Cancún and CODEQ shelters, now adapted for athlete development.

Emotional Moment: Presentation of the State Banner

One of the most significant moments was the presentation of the banner featuring the Quintana Roo coat of arms to athletes Shaday Nicole Hoil Matos and Jazziel Azriel Balam Canul, who represented their teammates as symbols of the delegation’s commitment, discipline, and pride.

Historic Growth of Sports in Quintana Roo

The ceremony noted that in the first National Olympics in 1996, Quintana Roo participated with 464 members, while the 2026 delegation exceeds 800, marking significant growth in the state’s sports development. Additionally, over 50% of the delegation consists of women, reflecting advances in equality and female participation in sports.

Dates and Venues for the CONADE National Olympics 2026

The CONADE National Olympics 2026 will take place from April 14 to June 6 in various venues across the country: Puebla, Jalisco, Tlaxcala, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, and Yucatán.

Message of Unity and Motivation for Athletes

Representing the delegation, athlete Jazziel Azriel Balam Canul thanked the support received and emphasized the importance of better sports facilities: “Today we have better conditions to train, and that motivates us to give our best in every competition.”
