Cozumel to Host 18th Bird Festival

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Cozumel is preparing to become a meeting point for science and biodiversity with the 18th edition of the Island Bird Festival, set for Oct. 7-11, 2026, in observance of World Migratory Bird Day.

The festival aims to raise awareness about the island’s natural wealth, where more than 150 migratory bird species have been recorded among roughly 300 species identified in Cozumel. Organizers say the event will bring this natural heritage closer to the community and bolster conservation efforts.

The program will feature specialists from local, national, and international levels and offer activities for all ages, including lectures, expert-guided birdwatching tours, and workshops in citizen science and scientific illustration.

In addition to the academic and outreach activities, an environmental fair with cultural offerings will be held to encourage broader public participation in learning about and caring for the island’s ecosystems.

The festival will close with a screening of the documentary Flamingos: Life After the Meteorite, which organizers said reinforces the importance of protecting the species and natural spaces that make Cozumel a unique site for biodiversity.
