Boost Your Immunity Now: Quintana Roo Urges Rapid COVID-19 and Influenza Vaccination

The Quintana Roo Ministry of Health (Sesa) is intensifying its appeal for residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza, particularly during the winter season. Recent data shows that from October to January, 333,718 vaccines have been administered across the state. This accounts for 59.1% of the 564,660 doses planned for the 2024-2025 vaccination campaign.

Sesa's head, Flavio Carlos Rosado, provided further details, stating that of the 120,000 available doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, 63,753 have been administered. This represents a progress of 53.13%. Regarding the influenza vaccine, 269,965 doses have been given out of the planned 444,660, equating to a coverage of 60.71%.

Carlos Rosado stressed the need to speed up the vaccination rate, stating, "We need to move faster. Please, I urge residents not to wait until March to get vaccinated." The vaccination campaign, which runs from October to March, aims to safeguard residents during the winter months, when respiratory illnesses are more prevalent due to fluctuating temperatures. He emphasized that people shouldn't wait until the campaign's end to get their vaccines, given the population's increased vulnerability during this time of year.

Quintana Roo currently ranks 29th nationwide in COVID-19 cases. Consequently, Carlos Rosado is urging residents to continue practicing hygiene measures and to seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms. He said, "Please, don't let your guard down. If you start to feel unwell, don't wait 10 days. Go to a health center, mobile medical caravan, or hospital immediately." He also reiterated the importance of preventive measures, such as frequent hand washing with soap and water, to minimize the risk of infection.
