Quintana Roo to Generate Its Own Electricity
The gas plant will be constructed on a 350-hectare plot. The design of the plant is focused on efficient energy generation and reduced execution times. The infrastructure will be pre-manufactured, requiring only assembly on-site, thereby speeding up its commissioning. Preliminary work on the project is set to begin in the first quarter of this year, with the plant expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025.
The plant, initially conceived as a mobile energy solution, will be a permanent fixture in the region. This allows for a quicker installation process.
Quintana Roo's Path to Energy Self-Sufficiency
This sustainable energy project is part of Governor Mara Lezama's administration's efforts to make Quintana Roo a more energy self-sufficient state. According to the director of the Institute for Development and Financing of Quintana Roo (IDEFIN), this is just one of six projects aimed at diversifying the state's energy sources. Other larger scale initiatives are currently in various stages of development and could take between two and three years to come to fruition.
As these projects develop, Quintana Roo is expected to significantly progress in its energy transition and reduce the state's carbon footprint.
