Cancún, Quintana Roo — The body of a woman who had been reported missing since June 16 was found buried in the patio of a home in Cancún’s Supermanzana 46, prompting a response from the State Prosecutor’s Office’s Ministerial Police and Forensic Services.

The victim, identified as Lizbeth N., was the subject of search alert 557/2026. According to investigators, her romantic partner is suspected of involvement in her death and the concealment of her body on the property.

The case is part of a broader trend in Quintana Roo, where more than 40 search alerts have been issued in the last 20 days. Of those, over half of the missing individuals have been located, most alive, while two were found dead. During the same period, the Prosecutor’s Office reported locating 28 people and deactivating their alerts, with no additional fatalities recorded. In June, authorities conducted 12 search warrants related to disappearances and obtained four convictions.

So far in 2026, the state has registered more than 420 reports of missing persons. Approximately 230 have been found, mostly alive, while the rest remain under investigation. The cases are concentrated in the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Playa del Carmen, and Othón P. Blanco.

While authorities highlight progress in locating individuals, advocacy groups and families continue to call for stronger immediate search protocols to prevent cases from dragging on. In contrast, the Benito Juárez Immediate Search Group reported locating five people in the past week, three of them minors, through the activation of search protocols.

Between August 2023 and June 2026, the Immediate Search Group has received 2,677 reports of missing persons and located 2,276, an effectiveness rate of 85 percent.
