Chetumal, Mexico — Quintana Roo has confirmed five measles cases so far in 2026, state health officials announced, as the state opens free vaccination clinics in response to a national outbreak.
The Federal Health Ministry reported that Quintana Roo now has seven total cases, with five occurring since January. The state currently has 26 suspected cases this year, threatening to surpass the 76 recorded throughout 2025.
Quintana Roo’s incidence rate was 0.10% in 2025 but has risen to 0.23% this year. The state ranks third lowest in confirmed cases nationally, behind Guanajuato with one case and Yucatán with two.
Unofficial data indicates two of the confirmed cases involve a 24-year-old woman and a child under five, both hospitalized at the IMSS-Bienestar Hospital in Playa del Carmen. Two 10-month-old twins are hospitalized in Chetumal, while a fifth case is in Cancún, where an additional unconfirmed infection has been reported.
