Quintana Roo Reports 33 New Dengue Cases, Reinforces Prevention Efforts

Quintana Roo — The state recorded 33 new dengue cases during epidemiological week 35, keeping it among the Mexican states with the highest number of recent infections, health officials said.

According to the federal Health Secretariat’s Epidemiological Surveillance Bulletin, Quintana Roo ranks third nationwide for new cases reported in the period. Veracruz leads with 66 cases, followed by Aguascalientes with 58, while Quintana Roo tallied 33.

The report also states that two dengue-related deaths have been confirmed in Quintana Roo. Another five deaths were ruled out after laboratory analysis, and six more remain under review by the National Committee for Epidemiological Surveillance to determine whether they are linked to the disease.

Rainy Season Raises Risk

Dengue is a public health problem that can worsen during the rainy season, when the mosquito that transmits the virus finds favorable conditions to breed. Containers, patios, vacant lots and other spots where water collects can become ideal breeding grounds.

Health authorities are urging residents to step up preventive measures at home. Their main recommendations are to remove any containers that can hold water, keep patios clean, and eliminate spaces where the dengue-carrying mosquito can reproduce.

At the same time, the Quintana Roo Health Secretariat and the State Health Services are continuing fumigation and nebulization operations in several municipalities to reduce mosquito populations. Officials also asked residents to watch for spraying drives scheduled in their communities.

With the newly reported cases and the deaths still under investigation, Quintana Roo remains under epidemiological surveillance. Authorities said public participation is essential to cut down on mosquito breeding sites and lower the risk of further infections.
