Cancun Family Identifies Missing Man in Viral Video, Leading to Reunion After Five Months

Four people stand side by side indoors in what appears to be a bus terminal, with two uniformed security personnel on the outside and two men in casual clothing in the middle.

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A man who had been out of contact with his family for five months was located in Cancun and reunited with his father, who traveled from Monterrey to see him, authorities said.

The breakthrough came after a video circulating on social media allowed relatives to recognize him and ask authorities for help.

The footage showed the man being assaulted by another individual, who snatched the cans he had collected during the day on the city’s streets. The recording went viral and eventually reached his relatives, who had not known his whereabouts for months.

After recognizing him in the images, the family established that he was in Cancun, launching efforts to find him and put him in contact with his loved ones.

The Cancun Police Department said officers from its Specialized Unit for the Search of Missing Persons stepped in to locate him, provide assistance and coordinate the family reunion.

The man’s father traveled from Monterrey to Cancun to meet him again, ending five months of uncertainty for the family.
