Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo State Health Department reported that, as of August 7 and within the 30th epidemiological week of 2025, the state has accumulated 87 confirmed cases of dengue, including two fatalities attributed to the disease.

The figures reveal a situation that, while still under control, requires sustained epidemiological surveillance and reinforced preventive measures, particularly in municipalities with higher case concentrations.

Municipal Breakdown of Cases

The municipality of Othón P. Blanco leads the list with 36 confirmed infections, followed by Benito Juárez with 18, Playa del Carmen with 15, and Cozumel with 11. Fewer cases were reported in Puerto Morelos (3), Tulum (2), and one each in Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Lázaro Cárdenas.

To date, the municipalities of Bacalar, Isla Mujeres, and José María Morelos have not recorded any cases. However, health authorities emphasize the need to remain vigilant.

Geographic Spread and Risk Factors

The geographic distribution shows that dengue persists in both the northern and southern regions of the state, reflecting a broad risk associated with factors such as the rainy season, increased humidity, and the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the primary vector for dengue transmission.

Health Department Recommendations

In response, the Health Department has reiterated its call for residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in patios and rooftops, use repellent, and wear clothing that covers arms and legs. Authorities also urge individuals to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as fever, severe headache, general malaise, or joint pain appear, while avoiding self-medication.

The priority, officials stated, is to halt the chain of transmission and prevent further fatalities in the state.
