Quintana Roo Tops Domestic Violence Reports in Mexico

CHETUMAL, QR. – With more than 26,800 cases, Quintana Roo maintains the first national position in intimate partner violence against women, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).

The information comes from the Emergency Calls Report Related to Violence Against Women, corresponding to the period from January to November 2025.

During the referenced period, the state accumulated 26,997 telephone reports of intimate partner violence made through the emergency number 911, the national agency reported.

By total number of calls, Quintana Roo ranked third among the 32 entities in the country. Jalisco occupied first place with 34,790 reports, followed by Baja California with 33,843.

In the rate of calls per 100,000 inhabitants, Quintana Roo rose to the first national position with 1,284.57 reports; second place was Baja California with 819.12, and third place, Aguascalientes with 817.43. The entity exceeds the national average by 6.7 times, which is 191.26.

The SESNSP records indicate that Quintana Roo has maintained the highest rate in the country during the ten months reported this year.

Quintana Roo Exceeds National Average in Intimate Partner Violence and Family Violence Calls

Another crime highlighted by the agency is family violence. In the 11 months reported of 2025, Quintana Roo accumulated 24,615 calls to the emergency number 911, a figure that placed it in the sixth national position.

The first places by number of calls were Guanajuato with 54,711; Mexico City with 51,674, and Sonora with 39,599.

In rate per 100,000 inhabitants, Quintana Roo ranked third with 1,171.23 calls; Colima occupied first place with 1,267.36, and Sonora second with 1,260.8.

Nationally, the accumulated intimate partner violence was 255,084 telephone reports, while family violence rose to 492,216, according to the SESNSP.

During 2024, Quintana Roo recorded 28,714 telephone reports of intimate partner violence and 27,819 calls related to family violence.

Definition and Scope of Intimate Partner Violence

The Secretariat of Women (Semujer) defines intimate partner violence as any physical, psychological, emotional, or sexual aggression intended to exercise control over women.

For its part, the National Commission to Prevent and Eradicate Violence Against Women (Conavim) indicates that family violence is an abusive act of power or intentional omission aimed at dominating, subduing, controlling, or aggressing women physically, verbally, psychologically, patrimonially, economically, or sexually, inside or outside the family home, when there is or has been a kinship relationship.

Other figures recorded from January to November 2025 are: 140 reports for rape; 399 for sexual harassment or stalking, and 395 for sexual abuse.
